I have initiated the effor to refurbish the basketball court at Desa Mawar. Now, the young people at Desa Mawar can spend more time on the real net instead of Internet.

New look for basketball court in Desa Mawar 

 

SCHOOL holidays are going to be fun for children at Desa Mawar in Air Itam, Penang, after the basketball court which has been in a deplorable condition for more than a year is upgraded.

Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai said the facility was upgraded at a cost of RM4,700.

He added that the money to pay for the upgrading derived from his constituency funds.
“The upgrade is part of an overall plan to increase the facilities for the 5,000 residents living in the area,” said Wong after visiting the basketball court on Monday.

He said he also planned to acquire new outdoor sports equipment for the residents under the 3G programme.

The programme is an informal event to encourage three generations in a family to be involved in sports.

“It should also benefit the elderly. The equipment cost about RM10,000,” added Wong.

He said that with the FIFA World Cup event just around the corner, mini soccer tournaments could also be held there.

亚依淡选区拨款修复天德路玫瑰园篮球场

亚依淡区州议员黄汉伟拨出选区拨款4700令吉，修复破旧不堪的发林天德路玫瑰园篮球场，同时增添更多运动器材，以提升该社区运动风气。

亚依淡区州议员黄汉伟巡视玫瑰园篮球场后表示，玫瑰园篮球场篮板常年遭受风吹雨淋导致篮板表面及蓝网破旧，导致该社区的居民无法使用。通过亚依淡选区拨款4700令吉对玫瑰园篮球场进行提升及修复工程。

他说，发林天德路玫瑰园组屋共有5000多户居民，玫瑰园共有两座篮球场供该区居民使用，其中一座处于良好情况因此暂不进行维修工程，而另一座修复工程完成后，让该区的居民尤其是小孩子能够在假日期间有个运动场地。

他指出，选区拨款主要是将亚依淡区增添运动器材设备，鼓励居民能够多进行户外运动，同时在亚依淡区内增设5处运动器材设备，每处共耗资1万令吉左右。

“我在小五及小六是篮球队员。曾经过公民总校金昌平教练魔鬼式的训练。那时我每天下午走路去打球。他教导了我勇敢及纪律。今天我有机会提昇选区内的运动设施，让玫瑰园的孩子们及青年们有个好的篮球场设施。”
他宣布，为了响应即将到来的世界杯足球赛，在志士曼路举行一场社区足球赛。鼓励居民在电视机前观赏足球赛以外，也能走出户外亲身参与体育活动。他同时希望把运动精神带回社区。
